Helpful Tips as Fashion Face Masks Become the “New Norm”

Whether grocery shopping or strolling around your local neighborhood, you can't help but notice the drastic change in our social landscape: Face masks and social distancing are the new norm.

After an unprecedented month of economic lockdown and shelter-at-home, Americans see a glimmer of hope as Covid-19 cases in hard-hit cities like New York and Detroit start to decline. At the same time, however, the coronavirus is finding new fuel in other areas such as Colorado and California where cases have increased. Regardless, the Trump administration is working on plans to relax economic restrictions sometime in May 2020 and state governors also show signs that they're ready to lift stay-at-home orders in the coming weeks.

Lockdowns will not last forever and the economy will eventually re-open. But as The Hill recently reported, life as we knew it before Covid-19 will be slow to return, quoting health expert Clay Marsh saying, "When we come back out of this and rejoin each other, we're going to have to do so with caution, and we're probably going to be looking at physical distancing and wearing masks.”

With face masks not going away anytime soon, CottonCoverUp is determined as ever to offer a variety of pocket-filter face masks in adorable, creative and fashionable designs that help us express ourselves in new ways while staying safe. We also think it's high time for helpful information on face masks.

Helpful Tips for Using Pocket-Filter Fashion Face Masks

Below are a few DOs and DON'Ts to get the most out of your CottonCoverUp® Filter-Pocket Fashion Face Masks:

  • DO have 2-3 masks on hand for your personal use.
  • DO make sure your mask is always handy by stashing it in your car, backpack, purse, pocket, etc. Store clean masks in new and sealed Ziplock bags when not in use.
  • DO wash your hands before putting your mask on and before taking it off.
  • DO only handle your mask by the straps. As much as possible, avoid touching the fabric that covers your face.
  • DO make sure the mask fits secure around the edges of your face. There should be no gaps or sagging open spaces.
  • DO make sure the mask is comfortable. Everyone's head is unique, so you may need to adjust the straps to find the right level of comfort.
  • DO wash your cloth mask after each day of use and let it dry thoroughly before wearing again. Regular detergent and regular washer cycles are recommended. Avoid bleach as it may damage the fibers in the cotton fabric, making them less effective.
  • DO replace the filter after one week of use.
  • DON'T touch the front of your mask. Always handle it by the straps, especially when putting it on or taking it off.
  • DON'T wear a wet or damp face mask.
  • DON'T flip your mask inside-out or upside-down. Always wear it the same way.
  • DON'T wear a mask with gaps or open folds along the edges.
  • DON'T wear a mask for several days without washing it.
And perhaps most important...
  • DON'T take social distancing for granted while wearing your mask! It is still important to stay at least six feet away from other people when you are out and about. Remember, masks only reduce the chances of spreading germs, they do not make you invincible!
